Course summary
A number of our degrees are also offered with an additional foundation year (Year 0). Whether you are a school-leaver or someone considering returning to study but don’t have the entry requirements for your chosen subject, a foundation year course may be just what you’re looking for.A foundation year is the first year of a four year programme which:•provides an introduction not only to study at University but also to your chosen subject•offers you a highly supportive environment where you can develop the self-confidence, knowledge, skills and understanding for further study. This course gives you the opportunity to develop your knowledge of the core sciences (biology, chemistry and physics), study skills and introductory level maths, before progressing onto the degree. Plant Science course is designed to give you an in-depth understanding of the latest concepts in genetics, plant breeding, gene mapping, plant physiology and data analysis. The course emphasises the development of practical and employment-relevant skills in our newly opened, state-of-the-art laboratories and in field visits. Over three years you will develop the skills to collect and analyse scientific data independently, leading you towards an independent research project in your third year of studies where you can research a topic of your own choice with specific employment goals in mind. This also encourages close collaboration between you and your lecturers, involving you in their research. To support you throughout this exciting and challenging degree, you'll receive expert teaching that is informed by research and involves you in the research of a diverse and multi-disciplinary team of experienced academics. Your time at Canterbury Christ Church University will allow you to develop the analytical skills and give you the confidence to embark on one of the many interesting career opportunities that exist in the plant science industry, in plant research as well as in biotechnology companies more generally. Alternatively, you may also choose to continue to further study on a Masters course or a PhD
