Course summary

Course overview

You will blend a learning of theory and practice to build a strong academic base in counselling and psychology.

Together we focus on the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client, concentrating on the personal subjective experience of the whole person.

You will investigate person-centred, psychodynamic and cognitive behavioural theories and use practical modes from case studies, interviews and personal diaries.

Your learning will emphasise the connection between psychological theory and counselling. We want you to understand how to effectively apply knowledge to ensure that you promote psychological development in practise.

You can select to apply for one of the available exit points for this course.

Postgraduate Certificate (PGCert)

Who is this course for?

If you are planning on further related graduate work, whether through our Doctorate in Counselling Psychology or a related profession, this programme will be ideal preparation.

You might already have an undergraduate degree in an unrelated field and want to move towards psychology. You can use this certificate as a bridge to further study in counselling psychology.

The Postgraduate Certificate in Counselling Psychology is often used as a way of progressing towards doctoral study, such as our Professional Doctorate in Counselling Psychology.

It gives you a chance to develop interpersonal and counselling skills, and improve how you apply them in practise.

If you do progress towards doctoral study you will have strong qualifications for a fulfilling career in modern counselling psychology.

Our clinical practice graduates have progressed to lead services, with many providing placements and supervision. Others have gone into teaching and academia.
