Course summary

Overview

This online course will give you professional recognition and equip you with the subject knowledge, teaching skills and critical understanding you need to lead positive change as a digital leader in your setting. You will develop your own digital skills and support the practice of others. Alongside this, you will synthesise evidence from research and professional debate, and undertake your own practitioner research as a member of a professional learning community.

Course Details

The course is designed to be flexible so that you can have an impact from the start by taking forward aspects of digital skills that are relevant for your own teaching context. You might choose topics such as computer science, mobile learning or embedding technology across your curriculum. The course is suitable for beginners as well as experts, and we welcome applications from educators with an interest in digital learning and leadership at any level, for example early years, primary, secondary, SEND or Further and Higher education.

The course can be studied entirely online at a distance, or you can choose to attend two optional Saturday campus days. We meet online during term-time for discussion group webinars and individual or paired tutorials. You will engage with an online community, enabling discussion and debate from wherever you are.

There are two modules entitled ‘Developing digital literacy’ and ‘Developing digital leadership’. The first explores digital pedagogies and approaches to embedding technologies. You create a reflective portfolio on a digital literacy theme of your choice that includes embedded media. You also undertake a small-scale research project on a theme that suits you, resulting in a presentation in the form of an infographic poster. The second module explores the theme of leading professional development and evaluating impact. Your assignment takes the form of an academic article that links theory to practice. The choice of assessment projects in both modules gives you the flexibility to tailor your learning to your individual needs and interests. Throughout the course, you will be encouraged to exchange ideas in an online community, and there are opportunities to share work through channels such as subject association blogs, conferences and relevant publications.

Postgraduate Opportunities

The course gives you 60 masters credits which you can add to any existing credits and put towards a full masters degree (180 credits). We can offer a clear pathway for gaining an MA in Education and advise you on the best route.
