Course summary

Overview

Those of us that witness the impacts on the public, organisations and individuals from increasingly complex risks and threats know that we need to move beyond traditional emergency management training. We need innovative and courageous professionals to drive the systemic changes needed to develop true resilience. No matter what your experience, if you want to lead change for the better then this course is for you.

Course information

Historically a classroom-based delivery, the on-campus version of this course has been running since 2007. It enjoys an excellent reputation, with many students enrolling on the basis of professional recommendations.

This course now offers students the option to study online. It is designed to give you the essential knowledge, skills and competencies upon successful completion of the course, and this can be necessary to fulfil duties that fall upon organisations in the UK and internationally. It aims to prepare you for known and emergent risks and upon successful completion, equip you with skills to deliver more effective responses to realised risks and threats, and plan and implement successful recovery strategies.

Upon successful completion, the course also helps you develop a critical approach to the effectiveness of traditional emergency management approaches and challenges you to evaluate the potential for more creative solutions.

Career prospects

We strive to develop our successful students into professionals who can evaluate complex systems, anticipate potential issues and make difficult decisions while being culturally sensitive, conscious of safety and security issues and legal and political ramifications of their actions.

The course focuses on enhancing the capabilities required by emergency response organisations, private sector consultancies, national government and local authorities.
