Course summary

Please note as this is a part-time programme, we are not able to sponsor students for a Student visa. The Postgraduate Certificate in Integrative Psychotherapy (PGCIP) constitutes the final stage of training to become a professionally registered integrative psychotherapist through the Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy College of the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP).

Contemporary integrative psychotherapy is constantly changing, combining many different schools of thought. Built on the belief that no single approach is suitable for every client, it employs a range of different approaches and systems – focusing on building a trusting relationship between the client and the psychotherapist.

It’s accepted that this relationship, rather than a theoretical approach, is the fundamental ingredient in integrative psychotherapy. Therefore, this course places emphasis on experience over theory – and you'll have many opportunities to participate in exercises and personal therapy sessions that give you the opportunity to explore in a safe space.

Working in groups, you’ll learn how to effectively build a relationship – using feedback from your peers and supervisors to enhance and consolidate your clinical practice. Critical reflection will enhance your self-awareness and help you to develop into a well-informed practitioner who’s skilful and ethical in practice, able to work in different settings with a wide variety of clients.

Throughout your training, you’ll be expected to work with at least three adult clients on a minimum basis of once a week and be required to complete a minimum of 100 clinical hours. For UKCP or BACP accreditation, you're required to complete 450 clinical hours in total. The total you accrue will include the hours acquired during previous training.

You will also be expected to participate in weekly personal psychotherapy sessions with a UKCP-registered therapist.
