Overview

The Postgraduate Secondary Mathematics Specialist Teacher programme is designed to enable teachers to develop the necessary knowledge, understanding and skills to become effective teachers and leaders of secondary level mathematics. The course focuses on enhancing teachers’ subject and pedagogical knowledge, as well as promoting, leading and researching positive change in mathematics practice within their own schools at Key Stages 2 to 4. This course is most successful as CPD because the school or college also benefits from the dissemination of effective practice in the teaching and learning of mathematics.

Course Details

The Postgraduate Secondary Mathematics Specialist Teacher programme has two modules that develop mathematical understanding alongside leadership and research skills. Both modules are compulsory and will enable you to analyse and reflect upon approaches to teaching and learning mathematics at secondary level. The first module focuses on enhancing your knowledge and understanding of mathematics and related pedagogy. The second module develops your leadership and research skills within your own educational settings.

Postgraduate Opportunities

Successful completion of this programme will lead to the award of 60 Master’s level credits. These can then be used towards a full Master’s in Education by studying further modules and a final dissertation.

How will I learn?

The course is taught using an active blended learning approach, providing the opportunity to learn in both face-to-face and online settings. The main teaching with be through four Saturday Conference days per module, with workshops, seminars and group work. Two further week-day Teach Meet conferences per module will provide further development through keynote lectures, workshops and reflective discussions of practice.
