Course summary
This degree provides the opportunity to develop skills, understanding and knowledge about education in a primary school context.
Course overview
This course is designed for students who wish to study the development of children from the ages of 5-11. It also prepares students who may consider Initial Teacher Education programmes in the future and those who wish to work in settings and schools in a variety of employment opportunities.

The course sits within a Faculty awarded 'Outstanding' by Ofsted for Primary Teacher Education in 2016. The tutors and primary settings that support the course are experts in their field. They provide a rich and varied wealth of experience and subject knowledge that enhances the student experience through University sessions, work-based learning and personal tuition.
In each year of study, there is the opportunity to study within a primary school setting so that theory and practice can be observed and employability skills can be developed. There will also be the opportunity to gain other qualifications such as First Aid, Makaton and Accredited Learning Support Assistant (ALSA).
Teaching methods
You will benefit from varied learning environments such as lectures, seminars, IT labs, specialist subject classrooms and work-based learning in primary settings. There are also opportunities to work in small groups and with a personal tutor.
Assessment
You will be assessed via a wide range of assessment types, such as presentations, portfolios, coursework, essays, work-based learning, and examinations.
