Overview

This is a unique master’s degree for experienced practising commercial pilots who will be existing or aspiring Captains. It's entirely practice based and focuses on key areas of your work and development on the flight deck and in related experience as a professional pilot.

This degree is the only one of its kind that is exclusively focused on professional pilot practice and it will allow you to recognise, accredit and extend your professional practice and expertise. You'll focus on your current and ongoing professional development while consolidating and enhancing your existing professional skills.

As a work based programme, this course will take place in the "real world "context of airlines and the aviation industry and offer the critical aspects of leadership and management in the professional roles for senior pilots.

You'll be taught by a team who has wide collective experience in work and practice based degree programmes, reflective practice and in supporting blended and distance learning. They have successfully delivered the parallel and ground breaking BSc (Hons) Professional Aviation Pilot Practice degree to over 250 students since its inception in 2014 and have accumulated a wealth of aviation industry experience in tutoring and supporting practising pilots in achieving this degree.

Course content

What will you study on MSc Professional Aviation Pilot Practice?

You'll study, analyse and report on as well as critically reflect on major aspects of your own and other's professional practice. You'll also explore key industry practices such as the developments and application of competency matrices and threat and error management.

You'll gain an additional, new and academic perspective on your professional practice and the wider industry. You'll also have developed advanced skills of structured reflective reporting.

Teaching

How is the MSc Professional Aviation Pilot Practice taught?

The degree is work-based and delivered entirely online through our virtual learning environment, MyLearning. You don't need to come onto campus but you can arrange face to face tutorials with tutors if needed. Tutor contact is usually done via Skype, email and telephone.

Assessment

You'll be assessed through coursework which will include industry and personal research, critical practice review, portfolio, reflective reports, AV presentation, practitioner enquiry and an in depth project enquiry/dissertation.
