Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (Post-16 Education and Training)(English: Literacy and ESOL)(Part Time)

The Level 6 Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (Post-16 Education and Training) (English: Literacy and ESOL) (Part Time) is designed for beginning teachers of literacy and language students in the post-16 sector. An honours degree (2:2) is required for entry to the programme.

This part-time course aims to provide a fully immersive teaching experience by giving you access to employment and professional development opportunities in the Education and Training sector.

A minimum of 100 hours of relevant current group teaching over two years is required.

You will achieve a sound conceptual and practical understanding of how to influence the quality of teaching, learning and assessment in literacy and language provision across multiple contexts in the post-16 sector.

You will gain an in-depth knowledge of the key theoretical frameworks that underpin the acquisition of literacy and language. You will also investigate and enact a range of approaches to support the acquisition of literacy and language.

There are opportunities to investigate international perspectives relating to literacy and language learning and pedagogical models. You will critically examine key theoretical frameworks relating to English language and linguistics and explore how an understanding of key theoretical frameworks relating to English language and linguistics can usefully inform the development of literacy with English language learners.
