Course summary

The course aims to strengthen teachers’ leadership skills, through critical reflection, practice-based research, and collaboration. This will support your professional development by equipping you with the skills and knowledge for effective leadership.

The programme will examine the challenges of implementing and managing change; with a particular focus on curriculum development. It will enhance knowledge and understanding of school management responsibilities.

The course will be delivered in English but all students are able to submit their work in either English or Welsh.

Course Overview

This programme provides an opportunity for those aspiring to a senior leadership role in a school or holding a leadership position; especially those on a trajectory towards Deputy/Assistant Headship, to reflect on their personal aspirations and skills.

Throughout the course, the teachers will be challenged to critically review policies and legislation concerning their context. They will be encouraged to reflect on their current practice in relation to theory and government policy. There will be an opportunity for candid self-reflection. Including an exploration into the complexities and challenges of professional relationships and management.


Assessments is through coursework, and assignments will range from presentations and various forms of written assignments aligned to current practice. These assessments will provide opportunities to develop transferable skills.
