Course summary
The Professional Translation for European Languages MA combines practical training and theory to give you the skills and knowledge to become a professional translator.
You'll work between English and one/two of the following languages:
French
German
Italian
Spanish
The professional translation focus is a distinctive feature of this course. It incorporates:
translation theory
practice
professionalism in translation
What you'll learn
You will receive expert training in professional tools and computer-assisted translation (CAT) software. The training will explain how to work in different contexts, such as:
business and finance
legal
technical
marketing and publicity
literary translation
In your professional life you will only translate into your mother tongue and our teaching reflects this.
Your development
Opportunities for further learning
You can attend regular talks delivered by translation and interpreting professionals. The talks have the aim of furthering your understanding of the industry and developing your own personal professional profile. Speakers include representatives from:

translation agencies
freelance professionals
You’ll be able to apply for free membership of the Chartered Institute of Linguists for the duration of the course. You will also be part of the Translating and Interpreting Research Forum, which will keep you informed of:
