Overview

This full-time programme accredited by Ulster University is designed for students who are interested in a career in the fields of town planning, property investment, development or housing management, and who require a Foundation Degree to enhance employment prospects or progression onto an undergraduate qualification in this area of study.

This course is also suitable for students who want a change in career. Successful completion of the course will enable students to enhance their employment prospects and/or to progress to higher academic study. A key feature of this course is a Work-Based Learning placement within the student’s chosen sector. In the past students have secured placements in Planning Departments of Local councils, Housing Associations, Private Planning Consultancies and Residential/Commercial Estate Agents.

Career Prospects

Progression is by articulation to the second year (subject to final grade) of one of the following programmes at Ulster University: BSc Hons Real Estate or MSci/ BSc Hons Planning Regeneration and Development.

Alternatively you may wish to undertake further study for a degree in another construction-related discipline or go into employment in the property or construction industry (Please consult university admissions for entry to programmes outside the progression routes named above.)

This course is the first step to becoming chartered in one of the Professional bodies within the Built Environment such as the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) or the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI). Alternatively, you may wish to undertake further study for a degree in another construction-related discipline or go into employment in the property or construction industry. At A-level, a minimum tariff of 56 points, to include Grades CD, together with GCSE passes which must include minimum grade C in English Language (Level 2 Certificate in Essential Skills: Communication accepted as equivalent) and Mathematics (Level 2 Essential Skills Numeracy is not accepted as equivalent).
