Programme description

The DClinDent in Prosthodontics is a three-year, full-time programme which enables students to develop, consolidate and enhance their range of academic and clinical competencies to enable independent and reflective practice at the standard of a specialist in Prosthodontics.

This degree builds on fundamental dental knowledge and is focused on advancing theoretical, research and clinical skills. The DClinDent in Prosthodontics provides a great opportunity for self-motivated, determined and talented individuals to receive training by our team of specialists in Prosthodontics, Endodontics, Periodontics and Restorative Dentistry (in addition to other specialties and interdisciplinary services). This degree prides itself on small group teaching using modern pedagogical approaches and support

Successful completion of the DClinDent will stand students in good stead if considering applying to the Specialty Membership Examination in Prosthodontics administered by the Royal College of Surgeons.

Learning outcomes

On completion of the DClinDent, the student will be able to demonstrate the following:

Apply and demonstrate critical prosthodontic knowledge and skills beyond that gained from undergraduate and fundamental dental education and training.

Become self-sufficient in the application of prosthodontics (including fundamental endodontics, periodontics and interdisciplinary approaches) to follow a career within the discipline.

Demonstrate autonomy in the application of research and evidence based dentistry to support clinical activity.

Demonstrate patient management to the standard of a specialist (including laboratory work, interdisciplinary planning and administration).

Career opportunities

Successful completion of the degree will prepare candidates with skills for potential careers in primary care, secondary care and/or academic teaching.

Examples of careers entered into by our past graduates include:

Specialist practice (in the UK and overseas).
As a speciality dentist, specialist or consultant in secondary care.
Programme directors, lecturers and other roles within dental school infrastructure.

Candidates are strongly encouraged to confirm with the regulatory bodies of their country of origin as to how the DClinDent and MPros are recognised.
