You can conduct your research degree within the Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences. Research is aimed at understanding the fundamental mechanisms underlying major psychiatric and neurological disorders. The Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences is one of the largest university Division of psychiatry in the UK, providing leadership in clinical practice, teaching and high quality, cutting-edge research across many areas of psychiatric practice. The Division aims to offer knowledge and expertise for academic opportunities within human genetics, psychiatric genetics, biological psychiatry, neurodegeneration, developmental psychopathology, bioinformatics and biostatistics research. The Division of Psychological Medicine and Clinical Neurosciences includes the clinical disciplines of Psychiatry, Neurology, Neurosurgery and Optometry. Our research also spans these clinical areas and is broad in scope ranging from biochemistry, molecular genetics and cell biology, through patient investigations including studies of cognition and advanced brain imaging as well as clinical trials, and into epidemiology and other population studies. Much of our research is contained within the MRC Centre for Neuropsychiatric Genetics and Genomics and we also host the NISCHR Biomedical Research Centre, the National Centre for Mental Health. IPMCN also participates in the Cardiff University’s Neuroscience and Mental Health Research Division which brings our researchers together with neuroscientists in the Schools of Biosciences, Psychology and Optometry and Vision Sciences.
