Course summary
Psychology - the study of the mind and behaviour - is a diverse and dynamic topic. Our Psychology degree with an integrated year in industry is designed to develop and shape your understanding of psychology whilst also providing you with the skills and work-based knowledge that employers are looking for.
This enhanced degree programme, which is accredited by the BPS is designed to develop and shape your understanding and provide you with skills that will enable you to quickly find employment after graduation or continue on to further study. You will work and engage with lecturers who use their significant experience, and their own research to create an inspiring learning environment in which you can develop your own thinking in a safe and supportive department.
The department has outstanding teaching and research facilities dedicated to your course. The laboratories and dedicated research spaces provide you with a diverse array of facilities and equipment with which to explore. These resources allow you to develop your interests and engage creative problem-solving techniques as you progress towards your graduation.
What will I learn?
Psychology allows us insights into human behaviour. You will study the origins of the subject and how research has shaped and changed it and how it has developed into the modern science it is now.
The breakdown below will provide you with an illustration of what you may study during the four year degree scheme.
During your first year, you may:
- discover modules which cover topics such as social and individual behaviour, psychobiology and cognition, and research methods and historical issues in psychology
In your second year, you may:
- Tailor your degree to your interests and future career goals by choosing from our exciting range of specialist optional modules, such as:
- Health psychology
- Psychology and Psychology of Counselling
- Coaching and Mentoring
In your third year you will undertake your work experience in an industry that is relative to this degree BSc Psychology.
In your final year you may:
- Forensic Counselling
- Drugs and Behaviour
- Psychology of Humor
- Evolutionary Psychology
- You may also will apply your research and analytical skills by completing a research dissertation on a topic of your own choosing, with support from your supervisor.
