If you are interested in people’s behaviour, how we learn, what informs our behaviour and our attitudes alongside the study of criminal behaviour at an individual, community and societal level, this course provides an excellent basis for a career in Psychology and Criminology related areas.Using scientific methods and tools, as a student studying Psychology and Criminology with us, you'll learn about the individual and social contexts of crime, criminal behaviour and the criminal justice system from psychological, criminological, sociological and legal perspectives and how this relates to criminality, punitive justice, and the penal system as well as responses from and towards victims of crime. You will also have the opportunity to study option modules that not only look at crime, criminal justice and offender management from different perspectives but also modules focused on topics from within psychology that allow you to personalise your learning journey and give you the freedom to focus on what interests you.The course is delivered by specialist staff teaching from the Psychology, Criminology and Law departments that are equipped with cutting-edge facilities. In addition, we have dedicated modules at every year of study that are focused on your personal development, career, and life planning which ensure that you are well prepared for careers in Psychology and/or Criminology or for postgraduate study. You’ll also get the chance to complete a work placement as part of your studies, which is your opportunity to get real-world experiences in a professional sector, such as the prison service, victim support, offender community support and more.Our facilities include cognitive research cubicles, an observation room, psychology and IT labs, VR equipment, psychophysiological equipment as well as a mock custody suite and prison cell. You’ll complete group and individual projects, develop your presentation skills and, in specific modules, use techniques such as writing an advisory report designed to make research-based recommendations for a crime-related community issue and a real-life case study analysis. What’s more, during the course you will get the opportunity to enrich your learning with digital development opportunities and begin to make networks with like-minded students and inspirational guest lectures
