Course summary
You will explore a range of core psychological perspectives to help you better understand the human mind and behavior and develop your reflective skills to understand more about the application of psychology, preparing you to reach your future goals. Alongside exploring theory in the classroom and its application to contemporary societal challenges, you will also have practical opportunities to develop your research and experimental skills in our state-of-the-art psychology lab.Our practitioner academics and our regional partners who work in psychology-related fields will equip you to work in a diverse range of jobs or progress to study on one of our applied postgraduate courses. Practical work-based learning outside of the university and additional training around mental health are all included in this course and will ensure you are ready to put your knowledge and skills into practice.
WHY SHOULD I CHOOSE THIS COURSE-
PROFESSIONAL BODY STANDARDS– This course has been written to the standards set by the professional body for psychology and accreditation will be applied for before the course starts in September 2024-
INDUSTRY-FOCUSED MODULES– You will be exposed to modules shaped to develop the skills valued by employers, with applied practice to give you real understanding of using psychology in sport and exercise environments. -
WORK-BASED LEARNING– In your third year of study, you will be able to put your sound understanding of psychological theory into practice by taking on practical work-based learning.-
EXPERT TUITION– You will be taught and led by BPS Chartered and Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered sport and exercise psychologists so you emerge as a graduate with a strong skill base for working in the sport and exercise industry, preparing you for progression on to a MSc-
ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATION– As part of your first-year Mental Health and Wellbeing module, you will undertake mental health first aid training and on successful completion, will receive a certificate to use in your work-based learning or future work opportunities
FACILITIESAs a student on our BSc (Hons) Psychology with Sport and Exercise, it is crucial that you gain experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team and being exposed to the various methods of monitoring performance and assessing exercise and health-related components. Therefore, you will have access to our new state-of-the-art
psychology lab, where you can develop your research skills, put theoretical learning to the test and measure psychophysiological responses to stimulus with our range of specialist equipment.In sport, we rarely work in isolation, therefore, gaining valuable knowledge and experience in multidisciplinary teams and environments is vital. Here, you may shadow different disaplines to gain a holistic understanding of the role of psychology in different populations and with different stakeholders, in environments you may face in the real world.
