This course is designed for individuals who wish to advance their research interests in the field of public health. It will enhance your practical understanding of research methodologies, assisting you in the detailed process of creating research questions, designing robust studies, collecting and analysing quantitative and/or qualitative data, and ultimately producing original primary research that contributes to the dynamic field of public health. You will work closely with an academic supervisor to agree a research design and to plan and manage an independent research project. This will support you to reach a point of producing "publishable" research in the field of public health, and to be able to articulate and defend your decision making and the significance of your work. Developing these competencies will support you to launch a career in public health research and health intelligence, and make steps towards improving health outcomes at a local, national or international level. Please ensure that you review the areas of research interest of the supervisors on the course, prior to application, to ensure that there is a good fit to support your success. Aligning your research to a supervisor and approaching this with a degree of flexibility about the specifics of the research question and research design, is typically the recipe for success on the MRes Public Health course.
