Course summary


The degree content is both up to date and relevant to the changing face of public sector management and employment.
The aim of the course is to equip you with the skills, knowledge and experience required for a broad range of careers in public sector organisations. The course concentrates on building on the Foundation Degree’s focus on practical work based skills and knowledge as well as academic and professional competencies. The Honours Degree Top up year provides an academic and theoretical understanding to a range of units that are core knowledge requirements for future Public Sector graduate entry leadership schemes. The degree unit curriculums are designed to give students the skills and knowledge and understanding that would enable them to successfully work within a wide range of organisations delivering public services.
There is a concentration on the development of leadership and problem solving skills in each of the modules. The degree has close employer links and course content is regularly updated to keep abreast of current trends and changes in public sector organisation and delivery
Tutors have extensive and recent public sector employment experience and retain contact with a range of existing and emerging public sector organisations.

Continuing Your Journey

On successful completion of the degree students will be able to apply to a wide range of graduate entry positions in a wide range of public and private sector organisations. These include the Police and Prisons Service, Fire Service, Local Government, Civil Service, Armed services, Charitable and Voluntary sector organisations.

Students may also apply for Masters degrees in a variety of public policy disciplines. Students may also apply for a teacher training PGCE qualification to teach a wide variety of subjects in Secondary and further education.

Students completing the degree are able to apply for a wide variety of jobs in the public, private and charitable sector. Previous students are working in public sector jobs such as the police or in the Prison Service. Students graduating from this degree have progressed to enter highly competitive graduate entry jobs in the Police, Local Government and the Charitable sector. In addition, students have entered teacher training programmes, studied for a Master's degree in Social Work and obtained research scholarships.
