Course summary

Quantity surveyors understand all aspects of construction, are in high demand and earn attractive salaries. They are the financial managers of the construction industry and need to manage costs effectively whilst considering quality, sustainability and the needs of the client. Throughout the lifetime of a construction project, quantity surveyors are heavily involved. This includes all stages of the design, construction and operation of property developments, including residential, commercial, industrial and retail, as well as infrastructure projects such as roads, railways and airports. By the time you graduate from the Quantity Surveying degree, you will have the skills and qualifications for a rewarding and well-paid career. On this course you will gain the skills to manage the range of tasks involved in a construction project, learning to develop commercial acumen, think independently, and practice sought after quantity surveying skills such as measurement. You'll be prepared to confidently tackle the social, economic, and technical issues associated with construction projects of all sizes. With employability built-in throughout, the course aligns with the requirements of professional bodies including the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS, ensuring you are able to excel as a USW graduate. Studying this RICS-accredited Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management degree, you will learn skills and competencies that are directly relevant to industry practice and standards. Our quantity surveying graduates are widely respected. They work in all sectors of construction from housing to major infrastructure projects throughout the UK and internationally.This course is accredited by internationally-recognised professional bodies and is designed and delivered by a team of experienced professionals. You'll undertake a programme that is designed to embed employability and graduate attributes throughout, that directly aligns with professional body competencies, practices and standards. There are various employment opportunities in this field, nationally and internationally. You could work in private practice, property departments, construction and development companies, or with government organisations. You will also have the technical, legal, economic and management skills for a career managing finance in construction projects.
