Course summary
Learn how to control and create safety procedures in a range of industries and gain the skills to ensure people are safe at work.
As part of this course, you’ll:
- Acquire in-depth knowledge and develop skills that are associated with, competent risk management strategies and techniques
- Learn and develop innovative methods for dealing with legislative challenges when managing health and safety issues
- Be equipped with the expertise and confidence to manage an organisation’s health and safety activities

Accredited by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), this course conforms to the IOSH professional syllabus. On successful completion, you can apply for Graduate Membership of IOSH, and after fulfilling the Initial Professional Development you can apply for Chartered Membership.
TEACHING & LEARNING
Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to the specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.

CAREER PROSPECTS
Many of our graduates work as health and safety professionals across a range of industries, including road transport and logistics, rail transport and infrastructure, construction, demolition and power generation. Others are working as regulators with the Health and Safety Executive or for local authorities. If you are already working as a health and safety professional, this course will support your professional and personal development and will enhance your career prospects should you want to become, for example, an independent consultant.
