You graduate with Qualified Teacher Status, ready to inspire the next generation in a subject with a national shortage of qualified teachers.**How you learn**This course encourages the application of your scientific and teaching knowledge in real settings. You undertake 24 weeks placement across two or more secondary schools, reinforced by diverse and enriching lessons from our highly experienced science and education tutors. You acquire a specialist knowledge of science, and the rounded expertise required to effectively teach it.You learn through:- dual academic emphasis on science and education- 24 weeks of in-school experience, starting at one day per week in first year- longer placements in second and third year- wide-ranging teaching methods, with collaborative and individual studies- purpose-built labs that reflect the school environment**Applied learning****Work placements**Starting from one day per week in your first year to longer periods in your second and third, you work in schools to gain practical experience vital for teaching. You are assigned a school-based mentor to help develop your practical skills and apply theoretical knowledge, helping you to work up from individual students to full classes. While training, you will always have support available from experienced members of staff in all your classes.Sheffield Hallam has strong links to regional secondary schools to ensure your training is of the highest quality. Many of our graduates attain full time employment in our partnership placement schools.
