Course summary
The Postgraduate/Professional Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) prepares you to become a science teacher at secondary school level, specialising in physics. You will focus on addressing the needs of pupils aged 11-16 and beyond, working alongside experienced trainers from the Institute of Physics, who can provide ideas on engaging students in science. Colleagues will share research-led experience to support the teaching of physics in secondary schools. During your time with us, you will develop your teaching skills, learning how to address the needs of secondary school pupils at Key Stage 3 and 4. You will also develop your expertise, practical knowledge and theoretical understanding of science. By the end of the course, you will be ready to be formally assessed against the national standards for Qualified Teacher Status.
Placements are a core element of teacher training which enable our trainees to put theory into practice in a supportive environment. We are extremely lucky to work with a wide range of partners across London, Essex and Kent to support our trainees. We work closely with trainees when deciding on placements to ensure that trainees get the best training possible whilst on our programmes. Our strong partnerships ensure our trainees are well supported and have outstanding experiences whilst training with us.
