Course summary
Become a Biology teacher and inspire pupils to embrace the natural sciences. Begin your training with a secondary education PGCE in science. If you’re fascinated by the living world and want to share that passion with young people, our PGCE Science with Biology is your path to becoming an inspiring and confident secondary school science teacher. This hands-on and engaging course prepares you to teach science at Key Stages 3 and 4 (ages 11–16), specialising in Biology. You’ll explore how to make topics like genetics, ecosystems and the human body come alive in the classroom, sparking curiosity and critical thinking in your students.Led by expert tutors and experienced teachers, you’ll develop your subject knowledge, teaching practice, and classroom confidence through a blend of lectures, workshops, and school placements. You’ll also cover essential areas such as curriculum design, assessment, adaptive teaching and behaviour management, linking theory directly to your classroom experiences. Our partnership with the Tump 53 Nature Reserve offers exciting opportunities for outdoor learning and fieldwork, helping you explore how conservation and ecology can enrich science education. Many of our mentors and tutors trained at the University of Greenwich themselves meaning they know exactly how to support you on your journey to becoming a great teacher.''Subject tutors are credible and knowledgeable in their fields. Trainees are given ample opportunity to put their learning into practice through the ongoing school-based element of their course. This ensures that trainee teachers make a highly confident start to their careers in teaching.'' - Ofsted, 2023By the end of the programme, you’ll qualify with both Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a PGCE, fully equipped to inspire the next generation of scientists and make a real impact in secondary education.
