Course summary
OVERVIEW
On our part-time course, you’ll develop the skills to lead the design, development and evaluation of simulation and technology enhanced learning (STEL).
It’s designed for anyone interested in education and STEL from all disciplines. You might work in the health or social care, the emergency services, in the oil and gas industries, or the military, for example. Whichever sector you work in, you’ll share your experiences with fellow students to help broaden your knowledge of how organisations use STEL.
You’ll usually learn through group tutorials and interactive workshops, with activities ranging from role plays, discussions and presentations to immersive games. Our specialist facilities on-campus include simulated ward environments with sophisticated human patient simulators, a community flat, virtual reality (VR) equipment and an advanced audio/visual streaming and recording system.
The practical workshops will help you to gain a deeper understanding of both scenario design and theoretical principles, and how they can apply to your practice.
Through the taught units, you’ll critically evaluate STEL methods, from mobile applications, gamification and immersive scenarios to the use of VR. You’ll consider ways to use STEL in practice within a wide range of settings.
You’ll use your newly acquired knowledge and skills to develop a work-based project unique to your interests, and experiences. This assignment will help you to develop your professional skills, as well as encourage innovation and development within your workplace.
Experts whose work focuses on simulation-based education lead this course.
The three units on this course all provide 20 credits at Level 7 (masters degree level). You can build up credits and exit with a postgraduate certificate (60 credits) or complete single units as part of your continuing professional development (CPD).
CAREER PROSPECTS
You’ll have the advanced knowledge and understanding to design, implement and evaluate STEL innovations.
These skills will support you in leading improvements in the quality of education and training across a broad range of settings, from education to healthcare.
When you complete PgCert STEL, you’re awarded 60 credits at Level 7 (masters level).
