Course summary

Bangor University has a long tradition of offering social work education. The basic purpose of these programs is to prepare students to be able to take up professional social worker posts within the social work workforce. The program must meet the requirements of Social Care Wales 'Framework for the Social Work Degree in Wales' (2012), and the successful completion of the program will qualify students to register as professional social workers.

Careers and Employability

After graduation there are opportunities to take up jobs in a wide variety of health or social care settings, often working with other professionals within multidisciplinary teams. As well as statutory social work placements, such as children and family teams, learning disability teams, older people's teams and community mental health teams, social workers may be employed in hospitals, community development projects, or with non-statutory organizations - perhaps providing help for refugees or asylum seekers, or working with young parents who need support.

Partnership with Employers

The University is working in partnership with Gwynedd, Anglesey and Conwy Local Authorities to develop, deliver and manage this Social Work program. Partner local authorities are involved in recruiting, selecting students, contributing to student learning and assessment. Our main partners also provide practice learning opportunities, along with other employment agencies, ensuring that students develop a strong understanding of social work practice in North Wales, alongside their academic development. This is also an opportunity to identify the future workforce. We also work with carers and social services users in the recruitment, assessment and management elements of the program.
