Course summary

WHY SOCIAL WORK STUDIES?

A key aspect of this programme is to extend the collaborative partnership that currently exists between Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) and London South East Colleges (Formerly Bromley College). The London Borough of Bromley is also geographically the largest of the London Boroughs and attracts a diverse range of learners and workers. London South East College (Bromley) is located at the centre of the area and it is ideally positioned to provide both learning and working environments that respond to the needs of the community.

The BA (Hons) Social Work Studies programme is unique because it provides two options for study. First, it is a progression route if you have successfully completed the Foundation Degree in Social Care Studies at London South East College. Second, it provides an alternative final year of study if you wish to progress on the basis of relevant prior learning and experience on another programme or at another institution. It will help you consolidate and develop your skills, knowledge and values as you study for the professional social work qualification. On successful completion of the programme, you will be eligible to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

There are excellent employment opportunities for registered social workers. The programme is a generic course enabling graduates to work in a full range of settings - social services departments of local authorities, health and social care multi-professional teams and many services in the voluntary and independent sectors providing community, day care and residential services.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

The BA (Hons) Social Work Studies programme offers two routes for entry to study. First, the programme is for individuals who have successfully completed the Foundation Degree in Social Care Studies.

Second through the University APL and APEL process which is assessed on an individual basis to ensure you are also ready to undertake a final year of study to become a social worker. A fee may be applied for this. You will also be required to confirm prior to interview/offer decision making that you have the ability to use basic IT facilities, including word processing, internet browsing and use of email.

All successful candidates for entrance to the programme will be subject to current Occupational Health, Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and Suitability for Social Work clearance.
