This cutting-edge degree provides students with social scientific skills and knowledge, applying these to analysing religion in the world today. It builds from sociology, anthropology and political science to illuminate religion’s role in domestic and global contexts, and, conversely, explores how contemporary religious expressions shape and are shaped by cultural, social and political trends. This is a pioneering programme and is the first of its kind in the UK.Our teaching makes the most of London's rich religious culture, incorporating many places of worship and the collections of the British Museum.King's is home to a large, vibrant Department of Theology & Religious Studies, with special expertise in Islam, Judaism, Christianity and Buddhism and a variety of contemporary religious movements.A Sociology, Politics & Religion degree at King's will equip you with key transferable skills which can lead to a variety of different careers.London is home to a mix of people of hugely diverse backgrounds, and offers great opportunities to you as a student of sociology, politics and religion.King's is ranked no.1 in London for Theology & Religious Studies (QS Subject Rankings 2023) and in the top ten for Theology, Divinity & Religious Studies in the UK (QS World Rankings by subject 2023).The course explores the complex relationships between society, politics and religion around the world.You'll choose from a unique pattern of modules (some year-long modules, some over a single term). In your first year there will be some required modules to develop your basic subject knowledge. The range of choice increases substantially in the second and third years, to allow you to follow your developing interests and strengths.It offers an innovative approach to the study of politics and society, linking them with sociological and anthropological perspectives.A Sociology, Politics and Religion degree at King’s will equip you with key transferable skills in critical analysis, argument and communication that are indispensable in a wide variety of occupations.King’s students go on to careers in: government, the Civil Service, non-government organisations, social services, the caring professions, charities, law, the City, academia, PR and advertising, journalism and the media, entertainment and the arts, the church and other religious organisations.Recent graduates from Theology and Religious Studies have found employment as an Insight Manager at ISPUN, a Sales Executive at an Events company, a PR Assistant, a Research Ethics Co-ordinator at the National Research Ethics Service, a Researcher, at the Houses of Parliament, a Trainee Accountant, a Children/ Family Worker at Regents Trust, a Publishing Assistant at Allison and Busby, a Research Assistant at Tyndale House and a Company Director at a Musical Entertainment company.
