Course summary
At Southampton you can develop your language skills and deepen your understanding of Spanish and Portuguese speaking societies and cultures. We offer a wide range of courses in Portuguese and Brazilian studies, focusing on the 19th and 20th centuries. We are strong in several major areas of Latin American studies, in particular, cultural studies, sociolinguistics, history and politics. Latin American courses are available to all students who study Spanish and/or Portuguese, and you may choose to spend your third year in Brazil. Modern languages and linguistics at Southampton is ranked fifth in the UK for the quality of our research (REF 2014). Teaching and learning is supported by three research centres, Transnational Studies, Global Englishes and Applied Language Research.
