Success in the Master of Science in Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (Health Visiting) course will provide the professional qualification and eligibility to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council as a Specialist Community Public Health Nurse- Health Visitor.

Emphasis throughout the course is placed on your continuing personal and professional development with the aim of improving your employability prospects. You will focus on issues of direct relevance to the achievement of Specialist Community Public Health Nursing (SCPHN) health visiting status whilst pursuing a postgraduate course of study in a supportive learning environment.

A distinct feature of the course is the range of assessment tasks, including those that allow students to undertake workplace relevant assessments that can have an immediate impact in practice. The assessments will include a range of possible approaches: - Portfolio of learning - Case studies - OSCEs and written examination - Reflective accounts - Community Profile - Presentations - Essays - Journal and report writing Dissertation or Service Improvement project Each of these completed assessments will enable you to demonstrate the ability to critically understand and evaluate complex issues relevant to healthcare and communicate these effectively to a range of audiences. This strategy informs the assessment methods for each individual unit within the course and is based on Masters level descriptors and course learning outcomes. There are specific professional requirements for passing some of the units in the course. These requirements are stated on the relevant unit information forms (UIFs).
