Course summary

About the course

When you study with us on this course, you will focus on the provision of healthcare and social care to individuals, groups and communities within specialist community services.

The focus is on developing your competence, confidence and expertise in assessing the needs of your clients, and working in partnership with them to make informed, holistic health choices.

The ultimate aim is for you to mature into someone with the skills, knowledge and understanding to function as a valuable member of the community, and become a reflective, evidence-based and innovative practitioner as you deliver a client-centred programme of care.

Why choose this course?

This course offers the opportunity to study for the Specialist Practitioner Community District Nursing (incorporating the V100 Community Nurse Prescribing) qualification, with the addition of the V300 Nurse and Midwife Independent and Supplementary prescribing qualification.

The course can be taken on a full-time basis over one year or as a part time course over two years. For the full time course, success in the first year leads to the award of PGDip in Specialist Practitioner Community District Nursing and provides the professional qualification and eligibility to apply for registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Specialist Practitioner Community District Nurse with V100.

How will I be assessed?

The course assessment strategy is closely aligned to the teaching and learning strategy which is designed to have: - Immediate professional relevance - Draw on expertise-by-experience - Foster active learning and be leaner-centred in approach. A distinct feature of the course is the range of assessment tasks, including those that allow students to undertake workplace relevant assessments that can have an immediate impact in practice. The assessments will include a range of possible approaches: - Portfolio of learning - Case studies - OSCEs and written examination - Reflective accounts - Community Profile - Presentations - Essays - Journal and report writing Dissertation or Service Improvement project Each of these completed assessments will enable you to demonstrate the ability to critically understand and evaluate complex issues relevant to healthcare and communicate these effectively to a range of audiences. This strategy informs the assessment methods for each individual unit within the course and is based on Masters level descriptors and course learning outcomes. There are specific professional requirements for passing some of the units.
