Course summary

Unique in its breadth, Sport and Exercise Sciences ranges across maximising individual and team performance to enhancing physical and mental well-being nationally. Led by our Sports Sciences team you’ll join a course that brings together biomechanics, physiology, psychology and professional placements to help you uncover and sample pathways to a career in sport. On this BASES (British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences) endorsed course, you’ll start your journey to becoming an accredited Sport Scientist. You’ll undertake an extensive range of health and performance-based measurements, from body composition to exercise cognition to motion kinematics. From there you’ll develop dietary strategies, interrogate the sources and prevention of injuries, discover the connections between physical activity and the mitigation of chronic disease, and reveal how humans react in extreme environments. With our focus on small class, multi-disciplinary and practical learning, your assessments will be coursework-led to gain a truly representative measure of graduate attributes sought by future employers and for postgraduate study.Sport and Exercise Sciences graduates are well-equipped for a range of exciting roles, including Sports Science Consultant, where they apply cutting-edge knowledge to enhance athletic performance. As Performance Analysts, they delve into data to optimise strategies for team sport success. Others may use their knowledge of nutrition to work in health, sport or in a food science environment. Our graduates are in institutions such as UK Anti-doping and British Swimming. Clinical Physiologists make a difference in healthcare alongside Cardiac Rehabilitation Instructors and Health Promotion Specialists who contribute to public wellbeing. Recent graduates have progressed to become physiotherapists, while others provide physical activity within NHS mental health services. Those keen on developing knowledge can continue to study and become health or sport researchers within academic institutions nationally or internationally.
