Course summary

Sport and physical activity is fundamental to healthy development of individuals. The Sport, Coaching and Physical Education degree will focus on understanding the development of participants in sports teaching and coaching contexts. You’ll develop skills across a range of sports and physical activities, gaining a variety of experience in schools, coaching settings and within community sports development contexts. Many graduates progress into careers such as a PE teaching, sports coaching and working within local authorities or county sports partnerships. The course will explore innovative approaches to coaching/teaching and encourage you to critically reflect on your own delivery and the impact different approaches have on learners. In addition, you’ll develop an understanding of contemporary issues in physical education and coaching including motivations to participate in sport and physical activity as well as the barriers to participation for different abilities and backgrounds.By developing an understanding of teaching, learning styles and coaching techniques across a range of sports, you’ll graduate with the expertise that schools and community sports settings are looking for in sports educators and coaches. Many of our graduates progress into careers as PE teachers. Graduates from this course can also go on to work as primary school teachers and secondary PE teachers (via PGCE), sports and PE activators, sports specialist primary teachers, school sports coaches, and community sports coaches.
