Course summary

BA (Hons) Sport Development with Coaching not only offers a fresh and relevant curriculum for the modern sport student, it has been specifically designed to equip students with the skills needed for academic and vocational success both on and off the sports field. The ‘development’ strand focuses on aspects of sports management, sport sociology, sport policy and sport events, while the ‘coaching’ strand develops an understanding of established and innovative grassroots, community and elite coaching techniques and leadership styles. It is the evolution of former successful courses, BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching Science and BA (Hons) Sport and Exercise Studies. The course is taught in dedicated facilities on one campus. The Human performance lab, indoor sports hall, strength & conditioning suite, aerobic conditioning suite, group exercise studio, full size outdoor 3G pitch, dedicated seminar rooms and staff offices can be found within a 100 yard radius of each other.**Why study this course?**- This course will provide students with the opportunity to develop the coaching competencies needed to enter into the sports industry and to flourish in it.- The development and management modules broaden your vocational skillsets to enhance career prospects yet further within sport and beyond.- You will have the opportunity to be involved in practical activities/ sessions with sport industry partners, seminar discussions, and ‘real-world’ sport development and coaching contexts.- There will be opportunities for you to develop your own areas of academic research and relate your studies to practical sports situations.- Lecturers on this course are highly qualified and regularly present at international conferences, collaborate internationally and publish research in top academic journals.- We understand choosing the right course for you can be tough. So this course offers flexibility in that it allows you to change to another sport course at Newman and progress straight into the second year, if you so wish.
