Understand sport branding, campaigns and event promotion. You’ll learn to connect with audiences using modern marketing tools.

Promoting and marketing sport is a growing industry. You’ll develop as a dynamic sport marketer to prepare for an exciting career in this vibrant field.

As part of your course, you’ll:

Gain insight into specific aspects of sport marketing in a changing global environment

Discover how sport marketing contributes to the success of sports performers, teams, organisations, events and related industries

Learn how to connect and interact with various audiences through broadcasting, branding, print and digital campaigns

Analyse consumer behaviour

Develop an understanding of media technologies and how they can be used to communicate with a target market

Build skills in gaining sponsorship, writing press releases, event management, business planning, and setting up a small business

Along with developing your broadcasting, sponsorship and media liaison skills, you’ll gain knowledge of bespoke sports marketing initiatives and the crucial role they play in driving sport forward.

Teaching & Learning

Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to the specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.

Career Prospects

The growth in recent years of sport as big business has opened up a world of possibilities, with roles available in social media, sponsorship, wearable technologies, commercial sales and fan-relationship management. Our students have gone on to be high-flyers in the sport marketing world, working in sponsorship, branding and social media for Sky Sports, O2 and Premier League clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool.
