Course summary

Become an expert multimedia journalist specialising in sports journalism. You’ll develop knowledge of research, reporting, dissemination and promotion.

As part of this course, you’ll:

Study sports journalism within the wider context of journalism as a practice

Learn how to produce real journalism content within ethical, legal and institutional constraints and influences

Practise assessing and analysing the developing market

Gain a historical and theoretical understanding of journalism, and sports journalism’s rich past and challenging future

Be encouraged to create content for traditional and emerging platforms

Develop your transferable content production skills

Start to build your professional contacts and confidence

Hands-on experience
Gaining experience will be an important part of your course. We have strong links with industry, and you’ll be encouraged to take advantage of work experience opportunities to develop your professional skills.

Teaching & Learning

Independent study is a crucial part of learning at university and you will be required to undertake many hours of self-directed research and reading, and preparation and writing of assessments. Your course is delivered through a number of modules, which will help you to plan your time and establish a study routine. Outside of your lectures, workshops and tutorials, a range of support is available to assist with your independent study. Our subject-specific librarians will be on hand to direct you to the specialist learning and study-skill resources. You’ll also be assigned an academic advisor to give you tailored feedback and support.

Career Prospects

This course will help you to develop the knowledge and expertise to work as a journalist specialising in sport and content creation. You’ll have the skillset needed for PR roles and functions across all industries. A variety of roles in digital agencies will also be open to you. Alternatively, you might choose to undertake further postgraduate study at our university.
