Course summary
Climb the human resources career ladder or forge a brand-new career in the development and management of employees with a professionally recognised qualification in strategic human resource management.
Our part-time programme is delivered on Tuesday evenings, between 5:00pm and 9:00pm and is designed to develop effective human resources professionals with skills and knowledge to support business change. Our course is approved by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) and is mapped to their level 7 Diploma qualification. The CIPD is the UK’s leading association for the recognition human resource professionals.
You’ll study modules that are relevant to contemporary work issues, including Leading, Managing and Developing people and Investigating a Business Issue from a HR Perspective. Our broad range of core and optional modules will work in challenging you to consider how different HRM approaches are the key to success in corporate environments.
The course focuses on achieving professional capability in the key areas of people management and development. You will Integrate on and off-campus learning and have the opportunity to attend a highly regarded away-day linked to the Developing Skills for Business Leadership module delivered in year one.
At Staffordshire University, we have over 25 years’ experience of preparing students for their professional qualifications, and we want you to our ranks of former students at senior HR levels in local and national organisations.
On successful completion of study, we will issue the following award: MA Strategic Human Resource Management.
Teaching
Be prepared for a challenge: the pace will be fast. Instead of relying on theory, the course is based on 'problem and practice based learning', where real and live business issues provide the foundation of your study. Whilst some of these issues form part of the core teaching, many will be drawn from your experiences in Human Resources and those of your fellow colleagues.
This means you'll work collaboratively with well-known organisations, fellow professionals and teaching staff to tackle real-world, authentic problems at every stage. Applying yourself to practical problems will help you develop the skills that you need more quickly and more robustly than conventional classroom learning.
Assessment
You will experience a wide range of assessment techniques across the three years. There are not only the more conventional individual written assignments and examinations but also individual and group presentations using a variety of different media.
Assessment for the final year will take the form of a research proposal and a dissertation on a topic within the area of strategic HRM.
Careers
The MA in Strategic HRM will enable you to further your career in Human Resources and upon successful completion, you will also be in a position to upgrade your CIPD membership to chartered or fellow status.
Graduates have progressed to senior HR roles at organisations large and small, both locally and internationally, including Alton Towers and Virgin Media.
