Course summary

Challenge your creative practice and push the boundaries of what textiles can be on this MA. Our staff have expertise in knitted, printed and woven textiles, materials research, craft, technology, heritage and sustainability – and a network of industry contacts to support your professional development.

You’ll learn about a diverse range of textiles markets, how to identify and achieve your commercial potential and how to develop and refine your knowledge.

We place an emphasis on practice-based research that explores materials and processes from diverse sources and engages with critical debates and design challenges. Due to the open and explorative nature of the course, students from non-textiles backgrounds are welcomed.

Careers

We welcome students from non-textiles backgrounds such as 3D design, craft, fine art, materials development, engineering and science. We will guide you in becoming a confident and creative designer who is able to coherently express conceptual design ideas as well as handle complex technical information.

You will graduate with a high level of specialist textile and transferable design skills as well as research skills. Your studies will have prepared you for your next steps, whether as a freelance or commercial designer; a researcher within the commercial or industrial sector; or for further academic research at doctoral level.
