Course summary

Therapeutic radiographers play a vital role in the treatment of cancer. They work as part of a team, using their scientific and technical expertise as well as their interpersonal skills to plan and deliver radiotherapy treatment and provide patient information in the management of side effects in a compassionate clinical environment.Approved by the Society and College of Radiographers (SoR) and Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), this Therapeutic Radiography BSc programme is awarded by St George’s, University of London and is run by the Centre for Allied Health (Education) in the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education, a partnership between St George’s, University of London and Kingston University London. The course is taught by trained and registered therapeutic radiographers with a wide range of clinical and educational experience. Half of your study time will be spent in clinical practice. You will also have access to our state-of-the-art simulation suite, learning how to plan and deliver treatment.You will graduate with the attributes and confidence to work as a therapeutic radiographer in a radiotherapy department. This qualification offers a range of career opportunities in hospitals and other clinical settings, with the option to progress towards clinical specialisation, management, teaching and research careers. Career options in the UK include treatment planning, treatment delivery, patient support, treatment review and drug prescribing, palliative care, consultant practitioner, quality assurance, management, teachin and research in radiotherapy practice. Other graduate career pathways include physician associate study, graduate entry to medicine and postgraduate routes into mammography (breast screening). Upon graduation, you can register with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and apply for membership with the Society of Radiographers (SoR). **Course highlights**- Programme received a 100% student satisfaction rating in the 2020 National Student Survey (NSS).- Our shared campus with a teaching hospital, St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, means you will be surrounded by like-minded students and immersed in a healthcare environment. - 50/50 split between academic study and clinical practice, with time spent in a variety of different clinical settings.- Cutting-edge facilities include our Virtual Environment Radiotherapy Treatment suite (VERT), pathology museum, anatomy and dissection rooms and radiotherapy treatment planning suite, enabling you to learn clinical skills in a safe environment.- The only programme in London to offer a cloud-based radiotherapy treatment planning software system as part of a collaborative partnership with Varian Medical System - The Academic Hub.
