Course summary

**Why study this course?**Our Toxicology (including foundation year) BSc (Hons) is a four-year degree that is designed as an alternative route into higher education – ideal if you don’t meet the necessary requirements to enter the standard three-year degree. The knowledge you’ll build during your foundation year will ensure you’re well-equipped to succeed in the subsequent three years of your toxicology course. You’ll graduate fully prepared to enter a number of specialist areas within toxicology, such as pharmaceuticals or forensics. You’ll also receive the same award and title as students on the standard three-year course. **More about this course**On our Toxicology (including foundation year) BSc (Hons) degree you’ll learn the fundamentals of cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, human anatomy and cellular processes. By the end of your course you’ll have the ability to interpret and analyse data, with a deeper understanding of the negative effects chemicals can have on the human body and the processes of cells.Your foundation year will be shared with others studying a degree with a foundation year at the School of Human Sciences, which will be a great opportunity to meet students beyond your course and learn about different scientific disciplines. The shared curriculum will focus on equipping you with fundamental scientific principles and methods that are necessary for more advanced study at undergraduate level. You’ll also learn how to work safely and effectively in a laboratory environment.Following the foundation year you’ll get to study the same course content and modules as those who study our Toxicology BSc (Hons) degree. However, should you decide during your foundation year that you’d like to specialise in a different discipline within the School of Human Sciences, there will be some flexibility to allow you to do this.
