Course summary
If you want to focus on gaining practical skills in translation alongside fluency in French, German, Italian or Spanish, and you are also keen to engage with the fields of History of Art and Visual Culture, this specially designed three-year degree programme is for you.As a modern linguist, you will not only learn to speak and write fluently, you will also develop excellent communication and research skills and combine language proficiency with cross-cultural perspectives.As a student of History of Art and Visual Culture, you will engage with works of art from different periods and cultural contexts. You will develop a creative and critical mind-set, with excellent analytical abilities.As a part of Royal Holloway’s close-knit international community based in our beautiful historic campus, you will be within easy reach of London with its wealth of cultural resources.+ Whether you are an advanced or native-speaker level student when you start, by the time you graduate you will be fluent in your chosen language, confident in reading, understanding and analysing text and able to write with ease and accuracy.+ On graduation you will have learnt about theories and practices of translation and will have practised applying what you have learnt throughout your degree.+ You will combine ability in translation and linguistic competence with the capacity to think critically and creatively about art, and will have a good grounding in the History of Art and ways of approaching visual culture.
