Course summary
As a leading global power the United States Foreign Policy has a significant impact upon international relations. Warwick's MA focuses on the context of national security as well as wider aspects of foreign policy and its impact in areas like the economy.
Course Overview
The United States has a significant impact upon international relations both in terms of policy and academic scholarship. This significance has grown in the years since the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and the subsequent 'war on terror' in ways that have been reflected in the development of the academic literature and in the increased level of interest in the subject area. This programme focuses on US foreign policy in the context of national security as well as wider aspects of the country’s foreign policy and its impact in the areas of the economy international relations and particularly security.
Teaching
Modules are taught via one 2-hour seminar per week. Seminars give you the opportunity to interact with leading scholars as well as with your peers to explore a set topic each week. Every seminar will be based on extensive guided reading you will do each week but there is no strict pattern to how sessions are run. This may include mini-lectures followed by discussion Q&A sessions organised debates peer presentations policy briefs small group work and other projects.
Assessment
Research essays and potentially other written assignments throughout the year culminating in a 10000 word dissertation at the end.

Graduates from these courses have gone on to work for employers including: Deloitte; Japan Ministry of Defense; Nationwide Building Society; The Cabinet Office; University of Kent; Transport for London and West Midlands Police. They have pursued roles such as: business and financial project management professionals; economists; finance officers; management consultants; business analysts and public services associate professionals.
