A PhD in the School of Veterinary Medicine and Science may be in a broad range of topics. See below for our research areas.

  • Advanced Data Analysis Centre (ADAC)
  • Centre for Dairy Science Innovation (CDSI)
  • Centre for Evidenced Based Veterinary Medicine (CEVM)
  • Centre for Applied Bioethics (CAB)

Research areas

Research within the school is focused on four strategic research areas:

  • One Virology
  • Translational Infection Biology

  • Ruminant Population Health

Programme structure

Students undertaking the three-year postgraduate research degree within the school are expected to initially register for an MPhil degree and complete a structured training programme in the first year of study, before transferring to PhD in year two.

Progression through the period of study is closely monitored through regular meetings with the students’ supervisory committee and by reviews with an internal postgraduate progress committee in years one and two.
