Course summary

This part-time distance learning course is for practising orthoptists and other eye care professionals who want to study for a higher degree without having to leave their current post. It is the only course of its kind in the world.

Course description

The course is for practising orthoptists and other eye care professionals. It’s taught online (supported by two residential weekends, an introductory day for Low Vision and virtual tutorials), so you can study for a higher degree without having to leave your current post.

It is the only distance learning course specialising in vision and strabismus that allows you to develop skills beyond registration while you work.

We have several specialist orthoptists on our teaching and research team. Many of our students go on to publish the results of their research projects. Any module can be studied as a standalone for continuing professional development. Students will also achieve PGDip and PGCert.

Teaching

Teaching is by distance learning, supported by two weekend residentials (and introductory day for Low Vision) that take place in Sheffield and virtual tutorials using e-technology.
