Ten Fashion Designers with University Degrees
Love clothes? For plenty, fashion is seen as an exquisite or statement-making form of art. In the industry, many of the top fashion designers had their big breaks thanks to apprenticeships, a lucky work experience with some entrepreneurial friend-of-a-friend, or simply just perseverance. But don’t despair if you see yourself in fashion but also yearn to go to university – many of the best fashion designers in the world began their careers with a university education. As Oscar Wilde once said, "You can never be overdressed or overeducated."
Daughter to Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney is the London born, high-profile designer Stella McCartney. The child of the former Beatles star undertook a degree in Fashion Design at London’s Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design graduating in 1995; two years after studying she launched her own collection. Now well known for her eponymous clothing label, she has retail outlets in the US and UK, and has also designed concert outfits for the likes of Madonna and Annie Lennox.
