Campus and Crime Map

Student Accommodation

  • Nearly all first year students are housed on campus – 30% of all students overall. The campus has 14 halls of residence all on the main site, just 5 minutes walk from teaching rooms. Halls each have final-year student wardens, who live-in and provide pastoral support.
  • All rents include utilities, Internet, weekly laundry (except the self-service accommodation option) and cleaning (plus 3 meals each weekday for those in catered halls).
  • Students live in privately-owned accommodation for the second and final years of their degrees (third year is the work placement year).
  • Some local students live at home.

Living Here

  • A 5-minute car ride from the university, Newport is a classic English market town with a vibrant history alongside independent shops, cafés, pubs, supermarkets, and the Central Square nightclub.
  • A little further away, in Telford’s town centre are 2 multi-screen cinemas, ten-pin bowling, an ice rink, shops, restaurants and a great park, all just a 20-minute drive from campus.
  • There are also Stafford and Shrewsbury: two county towns with shops, cinemas, theatres, clubs, bars, restaurants, wide open spaces and places of interest to visit.

Getting Around

  • Newport is just 2 miles east of the campus and a shuttle bus runs every 20 minutes in the morning, at lunch time and at the end of the working day.  At the weekend a free minibus service takes students to Newport (on Saturdays) and Telford (on Sundays).
  • Public buses pick up and drop off close to the main campus gates.
  • The nearest mainline railway station is Stafford, from which London can be reached in 1 hour and 20 minutes. Trains also run via Telford and Shrewsbury into Birmingham or into Wales.

Culture and Nightlife

  • The primary location for nights out is on campus – thanks to the amazing job the SU does in bringing the party to students' doorsteps. But every Monday night the Newport nightclub Central Square hosts a student night, and coaches are often laid on for nights out in bigger towns and cities.
