History
- Zhejiang University (or The New Zhejiang University, abbreviated as ZJU) originated from Qiushi Academy- one of the earliest academies in China which was founded in 1897 and was changed to the present name in 1928.
- During 1950s-60s, the University underwent a series of reconstructions and dissociations. The school of Agriculture and the school of Medicine were separated from ZJU and became universities.
- In 1998, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou University, Zhejiang Agricultural University and Zhejiang Medical University amalgamated into the new Zhejiang University.
- Today ZJU has grown to a comprehensive research university under the joint support from both China’s Education Ministry and Zhejiang provincial government.
