- Aalborg is a state-funded research university that was created when several well-established institutions, including three technical and engineering institutes, two business schools, a school of social work and the Danish Building Research Institute merged in 1974.
- In recent years it has been expanding its applied research in multidisciplinary fields.
- The oldest course- land management and cadastral development- dates back to 1768.
- Since inauguration, its unique method for learning on programmes through problem-based projects gives its name to The Aalborg Model.
