History

  • The establishment of Freie Universität Berlin in 1948 was sparked by students' and teachers' pursuit for learning, teaching and research activities free from political influence.
  • The University has been shaped by international impulses. At present it works with about 600 international scholars and scientists who bring critical impetus for the university's research and teaching activities.
  • Seven international liaison offices of Freie Universität in Cairo, Moscow, New Delhi, São Paulo, New York, Beijing, and Brussels were founded in 2007 to support the university's researchers and scholars in reaching out internationally.
