  • Freiburg University was founded in 1457 as a comprehensive university originally focusing on Theology, Law, Medicine, and Philosophy. The first classes were taught in Latin.
  • In 1900 the University started admitting women to studies- the first university in Germany to do so.
  • In 1995 the Faculty of Engineering was established, and the spectrum of disciplines expanded to include Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacy and Geo-sciences.
